Joana Wong

Public Relations and Social Media Coordinator, Joana Wong

Joana Wong is a senior completing her studies as a Bachelor of Science in Advertising with a minor in Psychology at Florida State University (FSU).

Born and raised in the Republic of Panama, she moved to Taiwan to learn Mandarin Chinese after completing her secondary studies.  It was there where she was exposed to the cultures of her classmates– international students from all over the world.  This experience became the base of her interest for cultural nuances. After completing her Mandarin Chinese studies, she moved to the U.S. to attend FSU. Having lived in three very distinct cultures has expanded her experience as a global citizen.

Now that she is a student FSU, it is no surprise that she has pursued her passion by becoming involved with the Center for Hispanic Marketing Communication (HMC) and assisting their Advisory Board with PR/Communications Committee initiatives. She is also currently taking the online HMC course and would like to continue her studies at FSU with the Integrated Marketing Communication Master’s program.

Joana completed an internship as an Accounts Executive Assistant and Creative in CM América in Panama during the summer of 2011.  She is currently gaining more hands-on experience interning as the Promotions and Publications Assistant at The FSU Career Center, and as a member of the FSU Advertising Team, the student-run advertising agency that represents FSU for the 2012 National Student Advertising Competition.

Besides being strongly interested in cultural insights, Joana is also passionate for languages, art, and design.  She speaks Spanish, English, Mandarin, and is currently learning Portuguese.  Also, her art portfolio can be viewed at http://www.flickr.com/photos/ioanaw/show/ and her blog at http://www.joanawong.com.  She credits her competitive nature to training for triathlon competitions.
